Cité Médiévale de Gourdon

Nestled on its hillock, the city was the pride of the lords of Gourdon. In the heart of the commercial city, each stone reveals its past: the door of Majou Street, mansions, stalls of the rich drapers. Imagine its inhabitants at work in the narrow and winding streets with evocative names of the trade guilds such as "Ouliers" and "Mazeliers." In the 14th century, around 5000 people lived within the enclosure. Today, the circular shape of the boulevards remains from the castle and the ramparts, pierced by four fortified doors.
Cette cité fut la fierté des seigneurs de Gourdon. Dans le cœur de la cité commerçante, chaque pierre révèle son passé : porte de la rue du Majou, hôtels particuliers, échoppes des riches drapiers. Imaginez ses habitants au travail dans les ruelles étroites et sinueuses. 5000 personnes vivaient alors dans l’enceinte du XIV e S. Aujourd'hui du château et des remparts percés de 4 portes fortifiées reste la forme circulaire des boulevards.
